Each day as we step through our journey, I’ll share the challenge for the day then, depending on your green goals, I will share resources where you can learn more, dig deeper into the topic, or challenge yourself even more. We will do the challenge once *live* together, but you can participate anytime by joining in on the comments below and by using the hashtag #ChristianGreenLiving. So, when you’re ready, let’s Go Christian Green!
What is Fair Trade?
Fair trade is about people, environmental protection, and opportunity for families to work themselves out of poverty with the help of honest business.
“Fair Trade seeks to enable economic development through equitable trading partnerships. Fair Trade ensures consumers that the products they purchase were grown, harvested, crafted and traded in ways that improve lives and protect the environment.” —Fair Trade Campaigns
Have you seen the fair trade logos popping up on products? They are becoming more popular and easier to find on products like chocolate, coffee, jewelry and some produce. Even my bottle of Dr. Bronners Castile Soap proudly displays a fair trade emblem! We have to applaud companies who work fair trade and support the families behind them with our purchases.
With a little effort you can find a lot of quality fair trade products and by simply switching to a fair trade product, you are empowering people who might not otherwise be able to earn a fair day’s wage!
Today’s Day 12 Challenge:
How much do you know about fair trade business? Have you thought about what “fair trade” might mean to the people and families touched by unfair business that keeps many people around the world in poverty? It’s pretty amazing!

I bought some fair trade mittens this past winter from Whole Foods that I really love. Also, I like the brand Equal Exchange. I use their coffee, chocolate chips, baking cocoa, and hot cocoa. Would definitely recommend 🙂
Thanks for the recommendations Erienne! The closest Whole foods is about 40 minutes from me, but I hope to get there at least a few times this summer.
